GAME-WORN GLORY
Date: January 1, 1994
These Nike Air Veer cleats were worn by Heisman Trophy winner QB Charlie Ward during FSU’s national title-clinching Orange Bowl victory over Nebraska on January 1, 1994. The Nike Air Veer gained massive popularity in the mid-1990s, particularly with football players. Pro Football Hall of Fame DL Bruce Smith of the Buffalo Bills famously wore the cleats during his prime. With its distinctive mid-foot strap, bold design and visible Air cushioning, the Air Veer quickly transitioned from a reliable on-field cleat to a sought-after sneaker. Still showing signs of game wear, Ward’s pair captures a moment of Seminole greatness during their 18-16 championship win.
