ELECTRIC FRESHMAN
Date: November 4, 1972
The 1972 season marked the first time freshmen could play on FSU’s varsity team. Plagued with injuries throughout the campaign, the Seminoles relied on those young players. Five freshmen appeared in a game against Houston, including RB Fred Miller, who made a name for himself with eight receptions for 67 yards and two touchdowns — one rushing and one receiving. While the Noles ultimately fell to Houston, 31-27, Miller’s performance reinvigorated the team and reporters alike. The Tallahassee Democrat noted, “Florida State lost a football game here Saturday afternoon, but maybe regained some confidence in its ability to get things done on offense.”
