AN UNDEFEATED (REGULAR) SEASON

FSU’s 1979 season was one to remember! Coach Bobby Bowden led the Seminoles to an undefeated 11-0 regular season, including wins over in-state rivals Florida and Miami. It was only the second time in program history the Seminoles had finished the regular season undefeated. Senior FB Mark Lyles led the team with 1,011 rushing yards and future College Football Hall-of-Famer NG Ron Simmons was selected as a First-Team All-American. Though the Seminoles fell in the Orange Bowl, the team finished No. 6 in the AP Poll, their highest finish to date.
