DURHAM’S LEGACY
Date: 1971-72 Season
Hugh Durham left an indelible mark on Seminole basketball as both a prolific scorer and its most successful head coach. As a guard in the late 1950s, he averaged 18.9 points per game and once poured in 43 points against Stetson, setting a single-game program record (since broken). Elevated to head coach at just 29, Durham guided the Seminoles for 12 seasons, recruiting trailblazers like G Ron King and ultimately leading the 1972 squad to the NCAA Championship Game after a 27-6 campaign. He totaled 230 career wins while his .708 winning percentage remains a program benchmark, and FSU’s MVP award now bears his name.
