CLOSING THE GAPS
Tracking down a ball at full extension in the outfield, J.D. Drew displayed the same calm control on defense that defined his approach at the plate. While his offensive numbers rewrote record books, Drew’s athleticism made him equally impactful in the field, where his range, instincts and strong throwing arm turned potential extra-base hits into outs. Head coach Mike Martin once said, “J.D. made the game look easy. Whether it was at the plate or in the field, he just had a feel for where he needed to be.” That combination of defensive reliability and offensive dominance helped set Drew apart as a complete player during his Seminole career, reinforcing why opposing teams were forced to account for him on every pitch and every ball put in play.
