CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARDS
Even though the Seminoles could count on C Dave Cowens (No. 13) for points and assists, his specialty was rebounding. Over three seasons from 1967 to 1970, Cowens set program records for most career rebounds (1,340) and most rebounds in a season (456 in 1967-68). His 17.2 rebounds-per-game average remains the best in program history. Cowens recorded a career-high 31 boards in a win over LSU and “Pistol” Pete Maravich in December 1967, then posted another 30-rebound game two months later. “I don’t care about scoring. I get my kicks from rebounding. You know everybody has something they really enjoy — with me, it is rebounding,” Cowens said after a 22-point, 23-rebound performance against Florida Southern College in 1968.
