CATCHER WITHOUT BORDERS
Buster Posey wore this catching helmet and chest protector during the 2008 season, a year that highlighted both his command behind the plate and his uncommon versatility across the field. On May 12, 2008, Posey helped lead the Seminoles to a 10-0 home victory over Savannah State while playing all nine defensive positions in a single game. He began the game at catcher, rotated through every infield position, made his first collegiate appearance in the outfield, then took the mound in the 7th inning and struck out both batters he faced before moving to right field. The performance made Posey just the fourth player in program history to play all nine positions in a game. Reflecting on the moment, head coach Mike Martin said, “At no time was I ever worried about a ball being hit to him. Buster looked very comfortable everywhere he was, which just goes to show what kind of athlete he is.” Posey demonstrated complete control of the game, no matter where he stood on the field.
