CAPTAINS OF THE BACKCOURT
Senior guards Mara Freshour (No. 10) and Tanae Davis-Cain (No. 20) powered the Seminole backcourt for four seasons, culminating with the ACC regular season co-championship (shared with Maryland) in 2009. It was the first ACC regular season championship in program history. The 2008-09 season got off to an uneven start, when coach Sue Semrau benched the pair after FSU lost to rival Florida. After coming off the bench for several games, Freshour and Davis-Cain returned to the starting lineup to help FSU to a nine-game winning streak. The Seminoles ultimately ended with a 12-2 record in ACC play while Davis-Cain and Freshour finished second and third in team scoring, respectfully. “I think you can look at things statistically and it would be staggering what those two have done,” Semrau said of the two team captains.
