BREAKING INTO THE ACC
Women’s soccer in the ACC is a serious business. The conference has represented more than half of the National Champions since the NCAA Tournament began in 1982 — and that’s nothing to say about ACC play during the regular season. Four-year starter M/D Rachael Watkin helped the young Seminoles gain conference and national recognition during her senior season in 2000. She converted the game-winning penalty kick against No. 15 Wake Forest in the quarterfinal of the 2000 ACC Tournament, giving the Noles their first ACC Tournament victory in program history. When FSU made their first NCAA Tournament run that November, Watkin notched an assist against Jacksonville and a goal against No. 11 Florida en route to the Sweet 16. For her efforts, Watkin earned ACC All-Tournament team honors that season. The Boca Raton native started all 83 games of her Seminole career, compiling seven goals, seven assists and 21 points.
