BILETNIKOFF’S LEGACY LIVES ON
From 1962 to 1964, WR Fred Biletnikoff helped shape the identity of FSU football with his sure hands, uncanny route-running and unmatched feel for the game. In 1964, he tallied 1,179 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns, earning consensus All-American honors. He went on to have a Pro Football Hall-of-Fame career with the Oakland Raiders, where he played in Super Bowl XI and was named the game’s MVP. His legacy endures through the annual Biletnikoff Award, given to the top receiver in college football. As coach Bill Peterson once said, “If he got a hand on it, he caught it. I never saw anything like it.” Even decades later, Biletnikoff remains a symbol of excellence — his calm intensity and lasting influence visible not only in this portrait but in the very DNA of FSU football.
