BALL OF DESTINY
Date: December 7, 2014
This soccer ball was used in the 2014 NCAA College Cup Final, where No. 2 FSU defeated No. 4 Virginia 1-0 to win the program’s first National Championship. The Seminoles controlled the match with a disciplined defense, limiting the Cavaliers to just five shots on goal despite Virginia entering with the nation’s most prolific offense. F Jamia Fields provided the breakthrough in the 83rd minute. Afterward, Virginia head coach Steve Swanson acknowledged FSU’s quality, saying, “Credit Florida State — they were organized, efficient and made the play when it counted.”
