A NEW ERA BEGINS
Date: 1959 Season
This photograph captures a moment from the 1959 season — a transitional year that marked the end of one chapter and the beginning of another in FSU history. On December 7, 1959, Bill Peterson was hired as the new head coach, stepping into the spotlight after serving as an assistant at LSU. Peterson would go on to coach the Seminoles through 1970, building a national reputation for innovation and mentoring future coaching legends. He replaced Perry Moss, who resigned after just one season to take a job with the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Pro League. Though the 1959 team posted a 4-6 record, the season set the stage for a bright new direction in FSU football.
