A GRANULATED HISTORY
Date: 1999 Season
Before facing Virginia Tech in the 2000 Nokia Sugar Bowl, FSU boasted a 3-1 record in the iconic bowl game. The Seminoles made their first Sugar Bowl appearance in 1989, defeating Auburn to finish the season with a No. 3 ranking. In 1995, FSU beat up Florida in a match known as “The Fifth Quarter in the French Quarter,” and the in-state rivals met again in 1997, though FSU lost the rematch. Bobby Bowden’s Noles were back in the Big Easy in 1998, dismantling Ohio State to claim the No. 3 spot on the polls. With the 46-29 victory over Virginia Tech in the 2000 iteration, FSU only improved its record in Sugar Bowl history.
