11’S WINNING NUMBER
Considering the hundreds of college programs and thousands of games in NCAA baseball history, becoming the sport’s winningest coach is an extraordinary achievement. For Mike Martin, it was just another day in the office. The Noles knocked off ACC rival Clemson 3-2 in 13 innings to clinch Martin’s record-setting 1,976th win. He surpassed college baseball legend Augie Garrido for the No. 1 spot, breaking Garrido’s win total in 246 fewer games. “The record means that for awhile it’s going to have Florida State’s name (on it),” Martin said. “That’s what means so much to me because that’s the university that gave me a chance to coach. I’m very fortunate.” Martin ended his career with 2,029 wins, a record likely to stay intact for quite some time.
