RETURN TO THE WHITE HOUSE
Date: March 2, 2000
Coach Bobby Bowden caught up with President Bill Clinton when the 1999 National Championship Seminoles returned to the White House for the first time in six years. Following FSU’s Sugar Bowl win on January 4, 2000, Clinton phoned Bowden in the locker room to give his congratulations. “Howya doing, how come you’re not working tonight?” Bowden joked. “When we got behind, we found out what we were made of. I really appreciate your call.” During the team’s visit to the East Room in March 2000, Clinton called the Noles a “team of the decade in American football.”
