NO. 1 THE ENTIRE WAY
In the first AP and Coaches polls of the 1999 season, FSU secured the No. 1 spot. The Seminoles were determined not to give that top spot up. Fortunately, future Heisman winner Chris Weinke was their starting quarterback. FSU was put to the test with four ranked matchups during the season, including two top-10 opponents in No. 10 Georgia Tech in Week 2 as well as No. 3 Florida in the season’s final game. Weinke, who had these pants as part of his backup uniform for the 2000 Sugar Bowl, led FSU to a 46-29 victory in that game to close out the undefeated season. With their win in the BCS National Championship, FSU left no room for discussion, finishing No. 1 in the AP poll and becoming the first program to go No. 1 wire-to-wire in that poll.
