THE YEAR THAT BELONGED TO POSEY
C Buster Posey emerged as the centerpiece of Seminole baseball during the 2008 season, producing one of the most dominant individual years the program had ever seen. As a junior, Posey led the nation with a .463 batting average, 119 hits and 93 RBIs, combining consistency and power while guiding the Seminoles to the College World Series. He also hit 26 home runs and established himself as arguably the most complete player in college baseball. That season, Posey earned the Golden Spikes Award, National Player of the Year honors and the Johnny Bench Award as the nation’s top catcher. Reflecting on his impact, head coach Mike Martin said, “He’s as complete a player as I’ve ever coached. He changed games in every possible way.” Selected fifth overall in the 2008 MLB Draft, Posey left FSU with a season that redefined expectations at the position.
