Pitcher Mike Loynd earned the Golden Spikes Award after a standout 1986 season. The junior was named a First-Team All-American by both the American Baseball Coaches Association and Baseball America. One of the three captains for the 1986 team, Loynd set program records for wins (20) and strikeouts (223) in a single season, en route to a College World Series runner-up finish. He remains in the top five in program history in career strikeouts (417), career wins (45) and career starts (58, tied) today. Loynd was inducted into the FSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1993.
