KICKING IT BACK-TO-BACK
Date: 1999 Season
In 1999, Sebastian Janikowski became the first kicker to win the Lou Groza Award in back-to-back years. He nailed 23-of-30 field goals and 47-of-47 extra points to help the Noles win a national title that season. Janikowski was also third in the nation with 116 points. “He kind of takes the guesswork out of special teams,” said LS Clay Ingram. “He’s almost automatic.” In a rare move, the Oakland Raiders used their first-round pick on Janikowski in the 2000 NFL Draft. He spent 19 seasons in the NFL, and at the time of his retirement he was the Raiders all-time scorer.
