WE WON AGAINST NO. 1

The Seminoles were up for a challenge in the 2018 College Cup Final Four, squaring off against the defending champion No. 1 Stanford Cardinal. That entire season, Stanford had trailed for only seven minutes and 29 seconds. Yet FSU had momentum going into the match after defeating No. 6 USC on penalty kicks in the Sweet 16 and shutting out No. 14 Penn State in the Elite Eight. In the Final Four, D Gabby Carle (No. 16) blitzed past three defenders and booted a left-footed shot at 28:04 for her first goal of the season. It proved to be the game-winning goal as the Seminoles secured a 2-0 shutout victory — also just the third win over a top-ranked opponent in program history.
