WRITERS CHOOSE THE NOLES
Date: 1993
Awarded annually by the Football Writers Association of America, the Grantland Rice Trophy recognized FSU as the 1993 National Champion. This honor, named after legendary sportswriter Grantland Rice, served as one of several major national championship trophies presented before the Bowl Championship Series era. FSU’s 18-16 victory over Nebraska in the 1994 Orange Bowl earned them the FWAA’s top distinction. The gleaming gold football atop the wooden base symbolizes both excellence on the field and acknowledgment from the nation’s leading sports journalists.
