WE MEET AGAIN
Date: January 1, 1980
The Seminoles met the Oklahoma Sooners for the second year in a row in the 1980 Orange Bowl. Hoping to avenge the previous year’s loss, FSU held a 17-10 lead late in the fourth quarter. However, the Sooners scored a quick touchdown and converted a 2-point conversion to give them a one-point lead. The Seminoles rallied to set up a field goal, and though kicker Bill Capece’s 62-yard attempt fell just short, there was so much for FSU to be proud of that season. DB Bobby Butler, NG Ron Simmons, P Rohn Stark and K Bill Capece were all selected as First Team All-Americans. Butler would go on to be selected in the first round of that year’s NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons.
