WARD’S LAST HURRAH AT HOME
Date: November 20, 1993
Charlie Ward kept this extra jersey handy for his final game at Doak Campbell Stadium. The standout QB showed out for the home crowd, completing 27-of-36 passes for 278 yards and five total touchdowns as FSU routed North Carolina State, 62-3. After setting a new program record with 6,161 career offensive yards (since broken), Ward left the game late in the third quarter to chants of “Charlie! Charlie!” by grateful Seminole fans. “Charlie showed why he’s the best player in the country,” said WR Matt Frier. The Heisman Committee agreed, awarding Ward the Heisman Trophy just three weeks later.
