UNSUNG HEROES OF THE TRENCHES
Date: 1990s
This white jersey, emblazoned with No. 64, represents the grit and grind of life in the trenches. While not as flashy as skill positions, offensive linemen wearing No. 64 have anchored FSU’s front line through decades of dominance. One of the most prominent Seminoles to wear No. 64 was Jason Whitaker, a hulking 6-foot-5 offensive guard who played from 1995 to 1998. A consensus All-American in 1998, Whitaker helped power the offensive line that protected QB Chris Weinke and cleared traffic for RB Travis Minor. He started in multiple BCS bowls and was a key part of FSU’s run to the national title game in the 1998 season.
