THRIVE WITH NO. 5

With a Heisman Trophy, a national title and loads of program records to his name, Jameis Winston made an excellent candidate for a retired jersey. FSU retired his No. 5 jersey on November 18, 2023, one decade after the freshman quarterback led the Noles to a perfect 14-0 season and a victory over Auburn in the 2014 BCS National Championship Game. Over three seasons in Tallahassee, Winston placed high in several statistical categories with 7,964 passing yards, 562 completions, 65 touchdowns and 14 300-yard games. His 40 touchdowns in the 2013 National Championship season shattered QB Chris Weinke’s record of 33, while his 26-1 record as a starter (.963 winning percentage) remains on top today. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Winston first overall in the 2015 NFL Draft, adding yet another program first to his resume.
