THE NOLES ARE HERE TO STAY
Date: 1990s
G Sam Cassell shined on the 1992-93 team that won 25 games and advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time since 1972. He finished the season with 18.3 points and team highs in assists (170) and steals (97) to propel No. 11 FSU to the NCAA Tournament. There, Cassell compiled 77 points over four postseason games. Known for his confidence, in-game chirping and deep love of the sport, Cassell became the vocal leader FSU needed for tournament success. “People have to accept that Florida State basketball is here to stay,” Cassell said. “They might not like the way we play, but we are here to stay.”
