THE GARNET AND GOLD STANDARD
Date: January 4, 2000
QB Chris Weinke suited up in this gold helmet to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies in the 2000 BCS National Championship game. In the highly anticipated matchup, Weinke directed the Seminole offense with 329 passing yards and four touchdowns, cementing FSU’s second undefeated season in program history in front of a sell-out crowd at the Louisiana Superdome. Weinke completed two memorable 60-plus-yard touchdown passes, including a 64-yard toss to WR Peter Warrick in the first quarter and a 63-yard pass to WR Ron Dugans in the second quarter. After another successful season in 2000, Weinke would take home the Heisman Trophy.
