THE FIRST CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2011 Seminoles brought the ACC title to Tallahassee for the first time in program history with an impressive run through the tournament. The team handed No. 11 North Carolina their first-ever loss in the ACC Tournament in the first round (a 2-1 win in double overtime) and defeated rival No. 5 Virginia 2-1 in the semifinals. In the championship game, the Seminoles took on No. 9 Wake Forest in a hotly contested matchup. After falling behind early in the second half, star F Tiffany McCarty found the back of the net for an 85th-minute equalizer, setting up penalty kicks. The Seminoles emerged victorious, defeating the Demon Deacons, 3-1, from the spot. For her efforts, McCarty was named to the ACC All-Tournament Team along with four of her teammates (F/D Toni Pressley, M/F Janice Cayman, F Jessica Price and GK Kelsey Wys).
