THE BEST OF THE DEFENSIVE BACKS
CB Terrell Buckley made history during his Jim Thorpe Award-winning season of 1991. He had 12 interceptions, including a notable 40-yard pick-six on the first pass of a fierce game against Michigan, to lead the nation. Buckley’s 12 interceptions in a season easily broke FSU’s old record of eight. “[The Jim Thorpe Award] represents something I’ve always stated, that I’m the best defensive back in the country,” Buckley said. At the end of his college career, Buckley led all Seminoles with 21 interceptions, and his 501 career yards on returns broke an NCAA record that had stood since 1974. The Green Bay Packers selected Buckley with the No. 5 pick of the 1992 NFL Draft, leading to his 14-season pro career with six teams.
