TALLY’S HOMETOWN HERO
Date: 1991 Season
Tallahassee native Casey Weldon impressed during the 1991 season, completing 189-of-313 passes for 2,527 yards and 22 touchdowns. With that production, Weldon became FSU’s first winner of the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award as the nation’s top senior QB. Weldon was also runner-up for the Heisman Trophy, the best finish in program history to that point. “The biggest compliment I can get is that ‘he’s still just Casey.’ I wasn’t going to let it change me,” Weldon said of playing close to home. “If you get a chance to play for your hometown, it’s definitely something you should do. It’s a great experience.”
