STAR OF THE SUNSHINE STATE
Heisman winner Charlie Ward brought the national spotlight to Tallahassee during his historic college career. The dual athlete from Thomasville, Georgia, played for the football team from 1989 to 1993, and as starting quarterback in his redshirt junior and senior seasons. On November 27, 1993, Ward set program records (since broken) with 446 passing yards and 38 completions against No. 7 Florida, a game that featured the iconic Ward-to-Warrick Dunn 79-yard touchdown pass. That victory ultimately sent FSU to the 1994 Orange Bowl, where the Seminoles took down Nebraska and won the first National Championship in program history. Ward finished his career with 5,747 passing yards, 473 completions, 49 touchdowns, a 22-2 record and the hearts of Seminole fans everywhere. The College Football Hall of Fame recognized Wards’ contributions by making him a member of the class of 2006.
