The Virginia Tech Hokies had no answers for WR Peter Warrick, who put on an absolute clinic in the 2000 Nokia Sugar Bowl. With touchdown catches of 64 yards and 43 yards, a 59-yard punt return for a score and a successful 2-point conversion, Warrick totaled 20 points in the contest — a Sugar Bowl record. “I don’t think words can describe it,” said QB Chris Weinke, who completed 163 yards to Warrick alone. “You saw it. He’s the best player in the country.” After an off-the-field matter dropped his chances for the Heisman Trophy, Warrick remained grateful for the larger prize. “This is the national championship. No one can ever take this away from me,” he said.
