A lifelong FSU fan and member of the team from 2001 to 2004, Joy McKenzie took over as starting goalkeeper in her junior season. Between October 7 and 31, 2003, McKenzie compiled 739:22 in consecutive shutout minutes — which included five wins and a scoreless tie — and set a program record that stood until 2012. She finished the season with a conference-best 0.32 GAA and just two goals allowed against ACC opponents. McKenzie also became the first FSU keeper with four ACC shutouts in a season, highlighted with an upset over No. 12 Duke. She noted the team’s unofficial motto: “If they don’t score, we can’t lose.” McKenzie finished her career with a 26-12-3 record, 152 saves, 13.5 shutouts and a sterling 1.06 goals-against average, positioning the program as one of the best defensively in the ACC.
