PLAYING DOUBLE DUTY
Dual-threat player Mack Leonard both pitched and played first base in two seasons with the Seminoles. In 2023, Leonard batted .276 with 43 RBIs — tied for third most on the team — while going 2-2 with a 2.78 ERA from the pitching circle. FSU increasingly relied on her arm during the postseason run to the Women’s College World Series (WCWS). In the first Regional game against Marist, Leonard (4.0 innings) and P Makenna Reid (1.0 inning) had a combined no-hitter as No. 3 FSU won 9-0. Her biggest game came in the Super Regional against No. 14 Georgia, when coach Lonni Alameda surprised Leonard by naming her the game’s starter. She gave up just one run on two hits over 4.1 innings as FSU clinched a 4-2 victory. Leonard then played first base in Game 2 of WCWS National Championship series, where the Noles ultimately lost to No. 1 Oklahoma.
