ONE FOOTBALL, TWO LEGENDS
FSU coach Bobby Bowden and Nebraska coach Tom Osborne met in back-to-back Orange Bowls in 1993 and 1994, with Bowden’s Seminoles winning both games. Those matchups pitted two of the most successful coaches in college football history against each other. Over their legendary tenures, Bowden compiled 346 career wins and led FSU to two National Championships, while Osborne totaled 255 wins and three national titles with Nebraska. There was nothing but respect between the coaches. “I don’t really run around with any [other college football coaches],” Bowden said ahead of the 1993 Orange Bowl. “But I feel like Tom is probably as close to a coaching compatriot to anyone I know. I think his and my beliefs are alike beyond football.” In 2018, Bowden received the fourth annual Tom Osborne Legacy Award for his contributions to college football and leadership in the community.
