NO. 2 IS A PRIME NUMBER
By the time FSU retired Deion Sanders’ No. 2 jersey on October 7, 1995, the former cornerback was in the midst of a Hall-of-Fame pro career. What set Sanders up for NFL success were his four incredible seasons as a Seminole. One of the great ballhawks of the 1980s, Sanders recorded 14 career interceptions and four career pick-sixes, including a program-record 100-yard return for a touchdown against Tulsa in 1985. Sanders also shined as a return specialist, setting the program record with 1,429 return yards and three TDs. Simply put, “Prime Time” was one of the most dynamic and explosive players to wear Garnet and Gold. Sanders made his first trip back to Tallahassee for his jersey retirement in 1995, celebrating with friend and longtime FSU football equipment manager Jimmie Calloway (right).
