HAT TIP TO 2K
No other college baseball coach reached 2,000 career wins before Mike Martin. The Seminoles defeated Virginia Tech 5-2 in the second game of a doubleheader for the milestone victory. Martin had built a culture of success in Tallahassee, leading FSU to winning records in each of his 40 seasons as head coach. More than half of those seasons included 50-plus wins. “I have never been around a person that enjoys competition more than he,” said former player SS Don DeLoach. “He hates to lose whether it be baseball, golf, badminton or anything else that keeps score.” Martin retired at the end of the 2019 season with a 2,029-736-4 all-time record, becoming the winningest coach in college baseball history.
