FREDDY WAS READY

The 1959 season was one of close losses and blowout wins for the Seminoles. In the game against Richmond, leading rusher Fred Pickard knew it was his time to shine. Pickard scored FSU’s first two touchdowns, rushed for 94 yards and caught one pass for eight yards. Pickard excelled on the field so much that night that the Tallahassee Democrat referred to him as “the Seminoles’ little Tennessee terror.” FSU defeated Richmond at home, 22-6. For his contributions to the team, Pickard was inducted into the FSU Hall of Fame in 1982.
