FILLING THE FRAME

Coach Bobby Bowden was all smiles receiving the 1999 National Championship trophy, FSU’s second title in six years. That season, Bowden led the Seminoles to the first 12-0 season in program history and the first No. 1 wire-to-wire ranking in the AP poll in college football history. Previously, Bowden had placed an empty picture frame on his desk as inspiration to fill it with a photograph of his first undefeated squad. He borrowed the practice from another coach. “So I copied that guy, and I’ve got a blank frame in my office for the first team that I ever coach that goes undefeated,” Bowden said. “I’ve already got the picture, so when I get back I’ll hang it in the office.”
