EIGHT FOR EIGHT IN THE ACC

Eight conference games produced eight victories as the Seminoles swept the ACC and claimed their fifth consecutive league championship in the 1996 season. A defense powered by consensus All-Americans DE Peter Boulware and DE Reinard Wilson held five ACC opponents to single digits, including a 13-0 shutout of No. 11 North Carolina in Tallahassee. FSU also completed an 11-0 regular season by defeating No. 1 Florida, 24-21, at Doak Campbell Stadium. Coach Bobby Bowden’s squad advanced to the National Championship game and ultimately finished 11-1 with a No. 3 ranking in the AP poll.
