EARLY GARNET AND GOLD CHEER STYLE
Date: 1960s
These vintage cheerleading garments — a Garnet and Gold sweater with a bold “FS” and a pleated skirt — showcase the timeless pride and school spirit of FSU’s early years. This uniform reflects the colors and style that came to define the Seminole sideline. Margaret “Maggie” Strum Acheson Allesee led the first cheer at the inaugural football game in 1947, earning the distinction of being FSU’s first head cheerleader and the first woman to receive a varsity letter. A 1949 FSU graduate, she was the only woman among the dozen founding members of the FSU Varsity Club and later earned four honorary doctorates in addition to her master’s and post-master’s degrees.
