CHARTERING NEW COMPETITION

The Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) Tournament began in 1971, organizing postseason competition similar to the NCAA Tournament for men’s teams. Early on, FSU became a charter member of the AIAW and the Florida Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (FAIAW). This shirt recognizes FSU’s appearance in the 1975 edition of the tournament, just one year after the Seminoles won the state title for the first time in program history. The AIAW Tournament was discontinued in 1982 after the NCAA began to sponsor a women’s basketball tournament.
