BUILT BEFORE TALLAHASSEE
Long before he wore Garnet and Gold, national attention followed one of the most complete amateur players in the country. Raised in Leesburg, Georgia, Buster Posey starred as both a hitter and pitcher at Lee County High School, earning Georgia Gatorade Player of the Year honors and multiple All-America selections. He set school records at the plate while also posting a dominant, undefeated senior season on the mound, showcasing a rare blend of power, precision and athleticism. That versatility made him one of the most heavily recruited players in the nation and compelling enough to be selected in the 50th round of the 2005 MLB Draft, a pick he declined in favor of college. FSU’s coaching staff saw a player whose skill set could translate anywhere on the field, a belief that was quickly validated when Posey stepped into the Seminole lineup and began exceeding the already high expectations that arrived with him in Tallahassee.
