BOBBY’S BAGNELL AWARD
In 2018, the Maxwell Football Club honored Bobby Bowden with the Francis J. “Reds” Bagnell Award, given to individuals who made significant contributions in football. The award was named after the former Penn star known for his leadership, talent and commitment to the sport. Bowden and Bagnell were contemporaries; both played QB and RB collegiately in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Bagnell earned All-America honors in 1950, and Bowden, who played for Howard (later Samford), took home his own All-American selection in 1952. Between Bagnell’s playing career and support of the Maxwell Club, and Bowden’s long and successful coaching tenure, each man made notable advancements to college football.
