A TRICKY FIRST DOWN
Date: January 6, 2014
When the Seminoles found themselves in an early deficit in the 2014 BCS National Championship Game, they had to dig into their bag of tricks to get themselves out of the hole. Trailing 21-3 on a fourth-and-4, head coach Jimbo Fisher dialed up a fake punt rather than give the ball back to the Tigers. On their own 40-yard line, the Seminoles lined up as if to punt then handed the ball off to RB Karlos Williams. Williams picked up the first down, bringing a renewed energy to the drive that was capped off with a RB Devonta Freeman touchdown to start FSU’s comeback.
