A RIVALRY WITH AN ORANGE TWIST

South Florida hosted a familiar feud in an unfamiliar postseason setting on January 1, 2004. No. 9 FSU met No. 10 Miami in the Orange Bowl for the rivalry’s first bowl matchup. The Seminoles carried a 14-3 lead into halftime, but the Hurricanes shut them out after the break and FSU ultimately fell to Miami in a heartbreaker, 16-14. Although the rematch ended narrowly, the appearance capped a 2003 season in which coach Bobby Bowden’s team finished 10-3, went 7-1 in ACC play and captured the program’s 11th ACC Championship.
