A RIVALRY UNLIKE ANY OTHER
Date: 1980s
Since the start of program, FSU women’s basketball has developed some intense rivalries. None are deeper than with in-state rival Florida. The two oldest public universities in the state have played each other annually since 1974. Standout guard Bev Burnett enjoyed some of her biggest games against the Gators, including a 29-point explosion in 1986 and a 27-point effort in 1988. “Once you come in and make a commitment to FSU, you make a commitment to hate the Gators,” Burnett once said. Over the last 50 years of matchups, the two teams have been nearly neck and neck in all-time record. However, from the 2004-05 season to the 2024-25 season, FSU posted a 14-5 record.
