A REBUILDING YEAR
After back-to-back 20-win seasons, the Seminoles found themselves in an interesting position going into the 1983-84 campaign. Senior forwards Sue Galkantas and LeeVayne Oliver provided a veteran core to a team filled with freshmen and sophomores, including the highly recruited prospect F Lorraine Rimson (top row of players, far right). Rimson would appear in all 31 games that season, becoming the team’s second-leading scorer with 459 points (trailing only Galkantas). For her impeccable first season, Rimson was named a freshman All-American by the American Women’s Sports Foundation. Despite all that talent, FSU faced a challenging slate of games, with head coach Jan Dykehouse noting, “This is without question the best schedule we have ever played.” The Seminoles finished with a 13-18 record, though one victory came over rival Florida.
