PEACH BOWL PREMIERE
Date: December 30, 1968
On December 30, 1968, No. 19 FSU narrowly fell to LSU, 31-27, in a thrilling Peach Bowl matchup. The game marked FSU’s first appearance in the Peach Bowl and solidified their growing national reputation. That season, FSU had finished the regular season 8-2, ranked No. 19 in the AP poll. Despite the bowl loss, the team ended the year ranked No. 14 in the final Coaches Poll. The offense was led by QB Bill Cappleman, who threw for more than 2,400 yards that year, and All-American WR Ron Sellers, who set multiple NCAA and FSU records during the season. Head coach Bill Peterson’s high-powered offense helped put FSU on the national map, and this game helped establish the Peach Bowl as a major postseason event.
