THE QUIET FORCE BEHIND THE TRENCHES
While this jersey doesn’t bear a nameplate or date, the number itself calls to mind some of the most physical and underappreciated forces in Seminole history. It’s the kind of number worn by grinders — the players whose contributions didn’t always make headlines but whose efforts were felt on every down. One of the most notable No. 58s in recent memory is Kendyll Pope, a fast, physical linebacker who patrolled the second level of FSU’s defense during the early 2000s. In 2002, Pope led the team with 131 total tackles, including 11.5 for loss. His instincts and sideline-to-sideline speed made him one of the ACC’s most respected defenders. Before him, DE Kevin Emanuel wore No. 58 on the defensive line and developed into a force up front, earning All-ACC honors as a senior.
